ShapeViz Instructions:

ShapeViz allows provides a simple way to quickly view GIS vector data,
imported from ESRI Shape Format. It provides easy export capabilities
to VRML97, GeoVRML 1.0, SEDRIS STF (not implemented), and MultiGen DFD (not implemented).
The user can also print out maps using the data.

Import Shape File (.shp):

Data can be imported from ESRI shape format, usingtheFile->Import->Esri
Shape File in the pull-down menu. Note, this only loads the geometry, and
does not load the attribute data in the associated DBF file. This will be
added in a future release. You can repeat this step to load sets of
Shape files. When the file is loaded, the current windows is reset to view
all of the Shape data.

Change Layer Attributes parameters:

In the Layer Parameters Window(Edit->Layer Parameters), users can change
the current layer name, and drawing attributes--line pixel width and color,
The user can view the Shape layer type (Point, PolyLine, Polygon, etc) and
number of records, and can change the Coordinate System, currently either
Geodetic or Cartesian.

Moving around in your data:

ShapeViz has a simple, but powerful capability for traversing the 2D data.
To Zoom In to an area of interest, use the Middle mouse wheel, move the
cursor to where you want to zoom, and roll the wheel toward you. Zoom out
by rolling the wheel away. To Pan, hold the middle mouse button down
move in the direction you want to pan. You can also use the scroll bars to
pan.

Extents of the current view:

To get the current window's extents, Open the Viewing Parameters Window
(View->Viewing Parameters or Alt-V). This shows the NorthWest Origin of the
data and the extents of the current viewable area.

Saving the Workspace:

ShapeViz has a native format, appropriately named ShapeViz Format (*.svf).
You can store your workspace in this format and come back to it at a
later date. The format stores references to the Shape files, not the data
itself. It also stores the parameters related to each layer.

Export your data:

ShapeViz supports export to the following formats:

  o   VRML 97
  o   GeoVRML 1.0
o   EasyTerrain  (Current release with license)
o   MultiGen DFD  (Future release with license)
o   SEDRIS STF format  (Future release with license)

ShapeViz Frequently Asked Questions:

 (1) Why does ShapeViz have a limitation on Zoom?

The scroll bars allow windows-native scrolling of the vector
data's extents.  Because of a limitation in MFC, the logical
height/width of the view must be below 32765 pixels.  A fix
for this allows users to specify an area of interest and only
render that data, zooming in/out of the user-area, or creating
 a new scroll capability.

 (2) How does printing work?

The current printing capabilities print the Vector data to
 fit the page.

 (3) Can I import files to ShapeViz with mixed coordinate systems?

No.  ShapeViz has some intelligence in deciding whether a
Shape file is Geodetic (Lat/Long) or Cartesian.  This value does
not automatically project geo-coordinates when rendering.  The
Shape file format does not contain info related to the data's
 coordinate system/datum.

 (4) How does ShapeViz use the coordinate system parameter for each Layer?

The user can set the current layer's coordinate system to either
Geodetic or Cartesian.  The export formats need this parameter
when creating EasyTerrain RFF or MultiGen DFD files.

 (5) What additional file formats/datums will ShapeViz support in the future?

Candidates for import formats are SDTS, DLG, and VPF.
Candidates for export include connectivity to TerreX and DXF.
The product path includes the future addition of intelligent on-the-fly
projection, vertical-datum, and horizontal datum transformation.

(6) How do I submit Feedback for enhancement/bug-fix requests?

We rely on user feedback to make our tools better answer customer
needs. If you feel that the tool could benefit by addition of
more functionality, adjustment of the User-interface workflow,
or have comments/questions about ShapeViz or our company please
