The Need
You've got Shape files, with vector data. You want to
send the data to your customer.
Problem: Your customer...
a) doesn't have a PhD in GIS.
b) uses his PC for e-mail, not GIS.
c) doesn't feel like downloading a 5 MB viewer application
on his 28.8 modem.
d) wants a viewer application that doesn't mess with the registry
or desktop.
e) etc, etc.
Visualize
ShapeViz provides a simple mechanism to view multiple Shape
files. After importing your GIS Vector data, adjust the
display parameters for each feature layer and save to a ShapeViz
File (*.svf).
Easy to use
We designed it's Graphical User Interface to be usable immediately
after download. With a mouse wheel, move the cursor to
the area of interest, and spin the wheel toward you. ShapeViz
Zooms in to the area you are interested in. Press the
middle button and you're panning. If you don't have a
mouse wheel, use the left and right mouse buttons to zoom in
and out. It's a snap...OK, it's a click! ShapeViz
also has standard printing support.
Think...3D
After viewing in ShapeViz, export your project to VRML, and
distribute the resulting 3D model on the web, using any of a
wide selection of VRML-compatible viewers. Does your feature
data have 3 dimensions? It will be preserved in the 3D
model.
To facilitate usage of the VRML functionality, the export
includes a default camera that views the entire data set and
cameras corresponding to each layer.
Bring Tools Together
The licensed version ShapeViz tool serves primarily as a conduit
to produce feature files in format native to 3D Terrain Modeling
tools. The tool answers a common end-user need for small
"go-between" tools to bridge the gap between the GIS
and 3D Terrain Modeling tools and their formats.
Benefit
ShapeViz serves successfully as a compact data viewer, and conduit
to supply GIS data to the Terrain Modeling and Simulation community.
